I came across this piece of kit a couple of years ago and thought I would give it a go, something that burns just about anything sounded good to me, saves carrying extra fuel about all the time. It comes in Stainless Steel and Aluminium and in various sizes and burns any naturally occurring fuels and boils water between 3-5 mins in any weather conditions.
I opted for the 1.5 litre Stainless steel one (for its durability) which also came with a stainless steel cookware and aluminium pan stand which enables you to heat your food at the same time as you boil the water for your all important brew. The design of it is very clever and very simple, basically its a double skinned chimney and the base pan has a hole in it to enable the air to be drawn through, Brilliant
I mainly use it on our laning adventures and on the beach when we're out on the quads, (an unlimited amount of fuel on there). Last year during a weekend laning with a group like minded people we stopped for lunch over looking a fantastic view in Yorkshire, time to fire up the KK and give someone a introductory lesson on art of firing it up, so out came the source of fuel, a few dry twigs, a bit of fluff and some fat wood shavings (high resin pine) we even used a flint n steel to do it right. (Ray & Bear would be proud), filled it up with water and after a couple of false starts it was up and burning nicely, after a few of minutes the water was boiling and we had our brew, some of the other members of the group were still waiting for their kettles to boil for quite a while after.
As I said earlier, you can get a stand that sits inside the top of the kettle which allows you to heat up beans, soup etc, if you wanted to cook something on it I find that just using the fire pan works just fine
The beauty of this bit of kit, is that it is carbon neutral green camping, now that's got to be good for the environment, could even say it'll off set the carbon foot print of the D2.
